Claire Langdown

Within the Grain – Stories in Wood 15 January – 3 April 2022

Unique in style and narrative Claire Langdown’s wood relief carvings featured in solo and group exhibitions from the late 1970s through to the early 1990s when reluctantly she had to give up carving. This exhibition will give an exceptional glimpse at a body of work that remains unmatched. With assured touch and sensitivity Langdown created subtle works, rooted in the everyday and responding to life around her, from objects such as parcels, cardigans and squashed cans to pages of children’s comics and annuals. Windows and drapes are a constant, capturing both the movement and a moment in the billowing shapes, while views captured into and from windows and gateways offer glimpses of day to day life and out to the wider world.

Based in Blaenau Ffestiniog since the early 1970s a selection of recent paintings and drawings by Claire Langdown will be shown in our project space.
